Grandia Xtreme

Grandia Xtreme shares many of the features of previous Grandia titles, but is more of a spinoff than a sequel. The game is far more combat focused, and more of a dungeon crawler than traditional RPG. The visuals and music is great, but the story and character development aren’t as flashed out.

La Pucelle Tactics is a tactical role playing game that was released for the Sony Playstation 2 in early 2004. This game, made by the same studio that produced Phantom Brave and Disgaea, has very similar gameplay and visual style. The player will progress through missions and gain levels and new powers as they do so. The gameplay can get pretty repetitive, and the story is overall lackluster. Overall if you are a fan of tactics game such as Disgaea then La Pucelle Tactics is worth a play, if not then it is a definite skip.

Makai Kingdom Overview

Makai Kingdom is a tactical role playing game that was developed by Nippon Ichi Software, and was released on the Sony Playstation 2 in mid 2005. In this game the player creates characters from different objects which all provide different base stats for that character. Then the player uses their homemade characters to battle through different story based stages in tactics style combat. The game has some interesting mechanics such as the character creation process, but otherwise it is almost identical to other NIS games such as Phantom Brave and Disgaea.

The game puts you in the role of a wolf who must search the very detailed and visually appealing world. Persona 3 Overview

Persona 3 is the cult favorite turn based role playing game that was released exclusively for the Sony Playstation 2 in late 2007. In Persona 3 the player takes on the role of an average student during the day completing tasks such as studying, meeting friends at the mall, and many more. These seemingly simple tasks help the player build relationships with ohter characters which in turn help augment your character’s abilities and “Persona”. When the “midnight hour” hits, then the real game really starts when the player enters into a large tower where he fights his way to the top to uncover secrets and improve their abilities. Overall Persona 3 is a cult classic that has inspired many fans and dedicated followers that is worth playing for any Japanese RPG fan.

Phantom Brave Overview

Phantom Brave is a turn based role playing game that was released for the Sony Playstation 2 in August of 2004. This game, which is a virtual copy of the popular Disgea franchise with a few changes, is able to offer the player countless hours of gameplay. Like Disgea this game is a turn based tactics game with repayable story missions, and many different characters to collect. Where this game differs from Disgea is how items and weapons work. All of these objects can be picked up and thrown for damage, which adds another layer of tactics to the gameplay. Overall if you are a fan of tactics game then this is a great play, otherwise Disgea is a much more established series with a lot more to offer.

Rogue Galaxy is an action role playing game that was developed by Level-5 and was released for the Sony Playstation 2 in early 2007. It was later released on the Playstation network for the Playstation 4. In this game the player takes on the role of Jaster Rogue who goes from a farmer to a major player in a galactic conflict that threatens the fate of the entire galaxy. The game starts out very linear, but at a certain point in the game it becomes more “open world” which allows the player to explore more at their own free will. At the time of this game’s release it was praised for its amazing visuals, and the overwhelming large scale that the game creates.

This RPG also has amazing voice acting, which almost makes up for its lack luster story. Overall if you are a fan of the JRPG genre, then Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is the game for you!
